Overview

The Advanced Life Support Patient Care Standards (ALS PCS) Section 6, Certification Standard outlines the requirements for Maintenance of Certification (MOC) that Paramedics must complete within the certification year. The certification year runs from February 1st to January 31st.  Each paramedic must complete the requirements by January 31st of each certification year. Upon meeting the requirements, the Medical Director will annually certify the Paramedic.

Employment

The Paramedic must not have an absence from providing patient care that exceeds ninety (90) consecutive days. 

The Paramedic must not have an absence from providing patient care that exceeds ninety (90) consecutive days. 

The Paramedic must provide patient care to a minimum of ten patients and/or alternatives experiences, as approved by the Medical Director, per certification year at the Paramedic’s level of certification. 

The Paramedic must complete at least one evaluation per year at the appropriate level of certification, which is obtained when the Paramedic participates in the annual Mandatory CME with SWORBHP. 

The Paramedic must demonstrate competence in the performance of controlled acts and other advanced medical procedures, in compliance with the ALS PCS, and the provision of patient care at the Paramedic’s level of certification. 

The Paramedic must complete a minimum of 8 CME points for PCPs and 24 CME points for ACPs. 8 CME points are attained when the Paramedic participates in the annual Mandatory CME with SWORBHP. The remaining CME for ACPs must be obtained through SWORBHP offered CME and/or self-directed CME opportunities.
