PTM Fellowship
Fellowship (Area of Focused Competence)
through the Royal College for Prehospital and Transport Medicine
Overview
Western has recently been granted an accredited Area of Focused Competency (AFC-diploma) program in Prehospital and Transport Medicine, from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons.
This program would allow for FRCPC trained, or in-training physicians to complete a one-year program at Western University. The focus of the PTM training program is to train future leaders in Prehospital and Transport Medicine. Through close interaction and opportunities to become deeply involved in various aspects of prehospital and transport medicine care, the trainee will develop advanced knowledge and skills in understanding the legislative and governing framework of prehospital patient care, various stakeholders in the prehospital world, administrative and management responsibilities, development of prehospital initiatives, education curriculum development, research and scholarly activity, and excellent “in-the-field” experiences (both land and air). The trainee will develop to appreciate the nuances and complexities of prehospital and transport care, prehospital administration and management, quality assurance and improvement, research, and education with a firm grasp and how these different realms of prehospital care coalesce to provide excellent, and continually improving, prehospital patient care.
