Question:
Is it acceptable to give oral medications to a patient wearing a cervical Caller that meets the indications for the medication and none of the contraindications?
Answer:
Yes it is acceptable. The Medical Directives have been optimized in the last round of comprehensive review to explicitly state within the Indications (ie. For aspirin: Able to chew and swallow) and Contraindications (I.e. for Acetaminophen: Unable to tolerate oral medication). Therefore, it is not the collar that precludes the administration, but the global patient condition. You will use your clinical judgement to decide if a patient is suitable for this route of medication administration.
