About Our Awards
We believe that being recognized for the excellent work you do as a paramedic is very important, not only to you but to us as well. Receiving positive feedback and being honored for your accomplishments builds self-esteem, establishes a rapport, and provides for meaningful communication.
SWORBHP has four Paramedic Recognition Awards. Please select from the following awards to view our criteria, submit a candidate, and view previous award recipients!
Prehospital
Newborn Delivery Award
Prehospital Newborn Delivery Award Criteria
SWORBHP Prehospital Newborn Delivery Award criteria:
- The paramedic crew delivered the baby, OR
- The paramedic crew assisted a midwife or family member in the delivery of the baby. NOTE: If the baby has been delivered prior to paramedic arrival on scene, the paramedics do not qualify for the newborn delivery award. Delivery of the placenta does not qualify for this award.

Medical Director’s Commendation Award
Nominations:
- The deadline for submission of nomination form is December 31st annually
- Nomination forms can be accessed through the SWORBHP website: https://www.sworbhp.ca
- Nominators will receive a receipt of confirmation of each nomination submitted via email
Award Criteria :
Criteria includes, but is not limited to:
- Facilitating the delivery of excellent prehospital care
- Providing exemplary care that goes above the call of duty
- Delivery of outstanding care in a challenging call
Limitations:
- All decisions will be made by consensus of the respective Local Medical Director and Regional Medical Director.
- The paramedic nominated must be a certified paramedic or paramedic student in good standing with SWORBHP, and the Service Operator
- All actions taken by the nominated paramedic must be in compliance with the current Basic and Advanced Life Support Patient Care Standards.
Prehospital
Save and ROSC Award
Prehospital Save and ROSC Award Criteria
- The paramedic crew presented a patient to the Emergency Department (ED) with a prehospital Return of Spontaneous Circulation (ROSC) AND the patient is discharged from hospital, OR
- The paramedic crew presented a vital sign absent (VSA) patient to the ED, the patient was resuscitated in the ED AND the patient was discharged from hospital. If a paramedic is unsure if the patient was successfully resuscitated in the ED, this form can be completed to request patient outcome verification by SWORBHP.
SWORBHP Return of Spontaneous Circulation (ROSC) Award criteria:
- The paramedic crew presented a patient to the Emergency Department with a prehospital Return of Spontaneous Circulation (ROSC). The patient did not survive to discharge, OR
- The paramedic crew presented a patient to the ED with a prehospital ROSC and SWORBHP is unable to determine if the patient survived to discharge.

Award of Excellence
Medical Directors Award of Excellence
Nominations:

- Nominators will receive a receipt of confirmation of each nomination submitted via email.
Award Criteria:
Criteria includes, but is not limited to:
- Outstanding clinical judgment and actions during a difficult or complicated clinical scenario
- Demonstrated leadership in a complicated multiple agency response
- Leadership and participation in education or administration activities over and above regular clinical responsibilities
- Advancing the practice of paramedicine by advocating on behalf of paramedics in multiple agency strategic planning
- Demonstrating outstanding initiative in proposing valid constructive changes to the current structure of EMS with the end result of adopting improvements within the current system
Limitations
- All decisions will be made by consensus of the Medical Directors and supported by the SWORBHP leadership team.
- The paramedic nominated must be a certified paramedic or paramedic student in good standing with SWORBHP, and the Service Operator
- All actions taken by the nominated paramedic must be in compliance with the current Basic and Advanced Life Support Patient Care Standards.
Award recipients will have their name engraved on a plaque which is displayed at the Base Hospital office in London and will receive a personalized certificate.
