Question:

Are we still withholding EPI in bronchoconstriction for greater than 50 year old patients? It’s not in the protocols to but I remember the memo from Feb 2021 saying to withhold it.

Answer:

This direction was in place during the COVID-19 Considerations, due to the loosening of the Conditions for IM Epi. Now that the COVID-19 Considerations are removed, you return to utilizing the Medical Directives as published. However, the risk vs benefit of any medication should be considered. For full details on the risk vs benefit, please check out our SWORBHP Podcast.  The use of epi in the bronchoconstriction medical directive will be evaluated during the upcoming Comprehensive Medical Directive Review.
