Question:

Does the patient need to be actively smoking to count for the Condition of 20 pack-year history in order to administer Dexamethasone?

Answer:

First off, good for the patient for quitting. The patient does NOT need to be an active smoker.

Unfortunately, if the patient has symptoms of bronchoconstriction and at least a 20 pack-year history of smoking, then the damage has been done. This patient will benefit from Dexamethasone administration.
