Question:
Question: Just to clarify about Ketorolac. The indications states localized hip OR extremity trauma. Are we to interpret this as isolated (single) hip AND isolated (single) extremity trauma? For example, if an old lady has fallen and broken both wrists, can we administer Toradol?
Answer:
The directive states isolated hip or extremity trauma. At SWORBHP we interpret that to me injuries isolated to the MSK system and not including head, neck, chest, abdomen or pelvis. Therefore, we feel that bilateral wrist fractures or multiple extremity fractures in the absence of other injuries would still qualify for treatment under this medical directive. As always, if there is any concern on the paramedics part that the patient fall outside the directive we would recommend patching to the base hospital physician for direction.
