Question:
Question: In regards to the base hospital recertification for 2014-2015, in the video for medical cardiac arrest the paramedic received a ROSC and was re-evaluating vitals q1 minutes, however, in the quiz it was noted that you are to re-evaluated vitals q3-5 minutes. Can you please clarify?
Answer:
 Thank you for both the question, and for identifying this discrepancy! As stated in the BLS Standards, on page 2-19, if CPR and/or SAED results in return of a pulse, obtain vital signs (including pupils); repeat at 3-5 minute intervals. The video is therefore incorrect, however the quiz is correct. In a patient care scenario however, you would not be wrong to assess the patient's vital signs more frequently than this provided you had the time and resources to do so.
