Question:

Why is nasotracheal intubation reserved for patients above the age of 8?

Answer:

The more anterior and cephalic (toward the head) position of pediatric airways makes nasotracheal intubation difficult in neonates, infants and young children.  Therefore, the Condition of Age ‰¥ 8 years was placed within the Nasotracheal Intubation Medical Directive.
