COVID considerations are NOT currently in practice, however paramedics should remain vigilant in their efforts to minimize exposure risk to the public and themselves. To minimize risk paramedics should continue to:

  • Follow local guidance on respiratory disease outbreaks
  • Remain vigilant in wearing proper PPE during AGMP’s
  • Discontinue CPAP when entering hospital ER’s and when traveling through common areas
  • Screen patients for potential FRI, ensure proper PPE for +ve FRI

Exposure to aerosols increases the risk of exposure to infections disease pathogens, including SARS-CoV-2 virus

As per the Ontario Provincial Infectious Disease Advisory Committee, Aerosol Generating Medical Procedures (AGMP’s) include:

  • Endotracheal intubation or SGA insertion during cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)
  • Manual ventilation using BVM (except following ETT placement with viral filter in place)
  • CPAP
  • Open system airway suctioning (excluding the oral cavity)
  • Nebulized medication administration
