Medicine continues to advance at a rapid pace resulting in change for paramedic practice.  The text books we learned from are at least five-to-ten years behind the journals.  These journal articles are generally published years after a clinical question has been asked. The internet can help you (if used properly), but you need to seek out and critically appraise sources of information.

Reflecting on the words of a seasoned paramedic, who has practiced for many years, “that nothing, not one single thing, that he learned in paramedic school all those years ago was still known to be true”. He spent a lot of time unlearning the old and learning the new.

Without a doubt, you will have to “unlearn” and learn just the same.  Never stop honing your skills and learning!
