Question:
With PCPs having the ability to shock a rhythm en route now, is it expected and best practice to stop compressions every two minutes during transport to analyze the rhythm. Or should we discontinue doing 2 minute analysis of the rhythm once transport is initiated. Â
Answer:
With the ability to defibrillate en route, you should not deviate from your current practice; aside from at the 2-min mark you can defibrillate, if you are manual service, and you believe you are able to appropriately interpret the rhythm while moving (it’s not artifact) and if it safe to do so. Note that in this situation, pulse checks are only to be performed if there has been a rhythm change, per the OBHG Companion Document.Â
