Question:

Does a prescription of NTG patch count as previous history of use for NTG spray? Would it be a concern that the medication would be administered through a different route and therefore have a different onset of effect?

Answer:

If the patient has been prescribed nitroglycerine for ischemic chest discomfort, in spray form, long-acting therapy via the patch, or in tablet form, then nitro spray administration for acute chest pain would be acceptable. However, make sure to closely monitor the patients blood pressure and if the patient becomes hypotensive, remove the nitro patch(es).
