Question:

Question: If I have a patient that appears to be in cardiogenic shock with a STEMI ECG should I be calling for a BH patch to have an order for aspirin after initiating an IV bolus?

Answer:

ASA is indicated in suspected cardiac ischemia. If a patient meets the indications for ASA as listed in the Cardiac Ischemia Medical Directive, and airway compromise is not a factor (the patient is able to chew and swallow) then ASA administration should occur.
