Question:

Question: Once I've started my bolus, do I stop once just above 90 say 92 or do I stop once normal tensive at 100? This has been tossed around so many times and I get both answers.

Answer:

Great question. The medical directive here is actually not all that clear as to the end points of the bolus so thanks for bringing this up.

Our teaching is that the indication for the bolus is hypotension which is defined on page 12 of your medical directive booklet in the vital signs section of the preamble. As an end point, normotension would be the reasonable end point to discontinue the IV fluid bolus and this is defined in this same section as 100mmHg systolic.
