Question: If a patient is between ages 8-12 and is VSA, are we still using the lowest Joule setting?

Great question! This used to be the teaching in some areas prior to the regionalization of the Base Hospital into a common set of protocols.

As per the Medical Cardiac Arrest Medical Directive, once the patient is greater or equal to 8yo, paramedics should follow standard adult energy settings for the defibrillator.
