Question:
Revisiting this question from 2020...For a VSA patient who is in refractory vfib after 3 analyses, can we call BHP for double sequential defibrillation (or vector change pad placement) if we have a second PCP unit? This question is asked in the updated context of Dr Cheskis' DSED study and other Ontario Base Hospitals having already implemented this practice.Â
Answer:
If you are trained in DSED by base hospital, however your service is not yet active with this treatment, you may patch to the BHP for consideration for this treatment. However, if you have not yet been trained by SWORBHP in DSED, we would request you not patch for this treatment, as there are multiple treatment caveats that paramedics need to be aware of prior to its provision.Â
