About Us
Who We Are
The Southwest Ontario Regional Base Hospital Program (SWORBHP) was created in 2008 with the amalgamation of four local base hospitals. SWORBHP is privileged to fall under the leadership of the London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC) and is one of eight Regional Base Hospitals in Ontario (7 land and 1 air), known collectively as the Ontario Base Hospital Group (OBHG). The OBHG provides medical oversight comprised of delegation, education and quality assurance/continuous quality improvement to paramedics in Ontario and advice to the Ministry of Health (MOH) regarding paramedic scope of practice, changes to the standards of care to reflect the most up to date medicine and the provision of prehospital emergency health care.
SWORBHP provides medical oversight to approximately 1700 Primary and Advanced Care Paramedics from 11 regional paramedic services and serves the large and diverse geographical region of Southwestern Ontario.
SWORBHP falls under the LHSC Southwest Centre for Prehospital Medicine whose integrated programs include medical oversight to paramedic students, community paramedics and fire fighters. The Southwest Centre for Prehospital Medicine also provides other services outside of the core mandate of the Base Hospital.
